Curry “Played Small in a Big Moment”
As a lifelong Clevelander, I’d be lying if I told you I was unhappy about this. . .
Like Steph, entrepreneurs have these moments. Times when we could have done more. Times when we could have taken another step, done another follow up, or innovated a new answer instead of giving up.
Are there areas in your business that you are playing small in a big moment?
Here are a few ways playing small may show up and how to solve it:
Symptom #1: You experience a lack of clarity in your goals. LeBron James had a singular goal for this year – to bring the championship back to Cleveland. When you don’t have that same level of clarity and focus, you may not play as big as you can. What do you do? Block off time – yes, actually schedule it – to review your goals and choose ONE to be your primary focus. Yes, just ONE.
Symptom #2: You do the same things over and over again. Professional coaches and athletes are constantly changing things up in order to gain and keep their competitive edge. To be successful, you have to do the same. If you do the same stuff over and over again in your biz and you aren’t getting the results, well, you know how the saying about the definition of insanity goes. The solution? Get out of your comfort zone professional and personally. Go for a run, hire a coach or a mentor, go sailing, take a professional development class. New experiences in both your personal and professional life will breed creative thinking and new solutions.
Symptom #3: You do EVERYTHING for your business. Solopreneurs and side hustlers are famous for this. Working for yourself doesn’t mean you work by yourself. In order to play bigger, you WILL need help. Take a hard look at the way that you spend your day. Are you creating products and working with clients or are you buried in the basics? To play bigger, hire a VA to help you with your administrative tasks so that you can spend your time on the stuff that actually makes money for your biz.
Don’t make the mistake of playing small in your business. Get ahold of those goals, get out of your comfort zone and bring in some help so that you can concentrate on money making tasks.
