86 a Stale Job
Are you feeling about as stale as a piece of month old bread?
The beginning of the New Year is just around the corner. It is the time that all of us (me included!) think about where we have been and where we are going. There are times when the only solution to a stale work environment is a complete switch. Whether you are considering going out on your own or you are thinking about looking for a new job, here are some “symptoms” that it is time to 86 the stale job:
- You are no longer challenged by anything. When I say anything, I mean anything, except for whether or not you are going to eat the second donut after the staff meeting or not. There are times when our jobs become so rote that there is no more stimulation to be had.
- Your boss doesn’t offer you any new opportunities. If you have petitioned to get a new position, new responsibilities or a new project and have been turned down multiple times, it is time to go. Work is way more than just a paycheck. It is one of the best opportunities we have to grow and transform.
- You feel yourself contracting day by day. When you work in a field or a job that you love, you will feel that each day you are challenged in some way. Getting out of your comfort zone is what makes all the difference in your growth. You gain confidence and become more sure of your own voice. If you feel smaller after work each day, you need to find a work experience where you can expand.
