3 Simple Truths – Starting a Business
Starting a business might be your dream. Like any journey, knowing what to expect along the road can be really helpful. Here are three simple truths to starting a business that will help you to get acclimated to being the boss instead of being bossed around.
- YOU have to set the goals and execute them. In some ways working for someone else is much easier. You show up at work, they tell you what to do and you do it. When you work for yourself, at least in the beginning, you are it. You will have to set the strategy and develop the tactics for moving your business forward. You will have to wear a lot of hats. Can it be tiring? But when you look back and see what you have built, there is nothing like it.
- You will face fear. Becoming an entrepreneur means facing your fear and a lot of it. You may have financial fears, fear of being overwhelmed, fear of not being able to get everything done – there are a lot of things to face. The good news is that fear is not a permanent experience when you work for yourself. In fact, each day that you look right in the eye of something new, whether it is technology or difficult clients, your confidence will grow. Soon, a path that seemed all new will start to have its own landmarks.
- Lone rangers don’t make it. If you are like me, then one of your reasons for working for yourself might be because you simply want to go on your own path. But even the most independent of us need a traveling companion. A coach, VA or mastermind group can make a HUGE difference in whether or not you succeed.
