ASK for What You Need
Working as a solopreneur doesn’t mean working all by yourself. In fact, if you want to succeed, you will need help, assistance, expertise and opportunities that can only be provided by others that have already gone ahead of you. So many potential entrepreneurs that I talk to assume they have to know everything and that there is way too much competition for them to be successful.
In fact, most entrepreneurs are more than happy to help you out. Whether you want to pick their brain over coffee or lunch, want to exchange emails or help you via a Facebook group, you will find that there are people out there – in your specialty – that are more than happy to give you a leg up.
The risk is that you won’t ask.
In order to get what you need, you have to ask. Let me say it again, you need to ASK for what you need. You might shake in your boots or feel afraid, but asking is the key to getting. I just heard a great story from Joleene Moody, a professional speaker and coach, about a young man who contacted her three times to open at an event for her. On the third time, she responded and gave him a shot, a short five minute talk that related to her topic. He not only did a great job, but he got valuable experience and a testimonial from Joleene.
You don’t have to go it alone. You can ask for help. Someone might say no, but they also may say yes. The risk is only to your feelings. I know you can handle that! Try it today – ask someone you know, a mentor, coach or expert, to give you a hand. Let me know how it goes!
